About the event
Full-day retreat at ABMT (8 am to 4 pm)
This will be an all-day, silent meditation retreat at ABMT, co-hosted by our friends Kate Ratliff and Ajahn Khamjan at the American Buddhist Meditation Temple.
We will practice a variety of traditional techniques including seated & walking meditation as well as Tibetan singing bowl sound healing & chanting designed to work together to cultivate, develop and strengthen mindfulness in every aspect of our daily lives.
Guidance and basic instruction will be offered at appropriate times but please bear in mind that this is a SILENT retreat. As such, talking should only be done when absolutely necessary or during periods designated for verbal interaction. Refraining from speech can be a powerful meditation tool.

Please bring a small food offering for the monks:
The alms offering component of the program goes back to the time of the Buddha. Even today, in countries like Thailand, Buddhist monks go on daily alms round to receive food offerings from the community. It is important to recognize that the giving of alms is above all an act of generosity. Participants in this day's program are encouraged to bring a small dish (or perhaps some fruit or other ready-to-eat food items) to ceremonially offer into the alms bowls of two monks as they come by to receive it. This gesture, when carried out mindfully and with a heart of giving, allows one to begin to let go of greed.
Participants are welcome to come for the whole day, or for any portion of it.
*****Fees*****
There are no fees to participate in any of these events. Heartfelt donations for the temple and/or our co-hosts and friends Kate and Purnamaya would be gratefully accepted.
*****Parking at ABMT*****
Street parking is no longer permitted in the neighborhood around the temple.
There is now parking for only five cars at the temple. All parking must be on the property of Cal-Orchid. Temple visitors are encouraged to park in the small dirt/gravel space to the left as you enter the property. Carpooling to the temple is highly encouraged. Alternatively, visitors can park at the bottom of the hill (on Shoreline Drive) then make the 10-minute walk to the temple.
